Brucellosis Accredited Free Stud

LOCATION

Our stud is situated 5km off the Boree Creek/Urana road half way between these two towns.

HISTORY

We became established in 1965 with a selection of top quality C.F.A. ewes and rams. Over the years we have built our numbers and reputation up as one of the largest and most progressive Bond Studs in Australia. We are breeding big framed, heavy cutting sheep, producing a valuable top quality fleece, as well as a large, well sprung, heavy boned carcase. These sheep produce a readily saleable lamb with fat score 2-3 and a carcase weight of 20-26 kg dressed. The Bonds readily adapt to varying climates that range from 14-40" annual rain fall.

ACQUISITION OF MAHONGA PARK STUD:

In 1994 we purchased whits stud in its entirety from the Anderson family of Rand. This has given us a new pool of genetics, in our quest to breed top quality DUAL PURPOSE BONDS.

Mahonga Park Stud have always placed great emphasis on the carcase qualities of their sheep and this has been proven by the stud and their clients both winning the "Golden Lamb of the South" carcase competition against specialist crossbred carcasses. This stud is without doubt one of the best dual purpose studs of the breed, and we were very fortunate to be able to purchase it as a unit, as it has been established for over 60 years.

SPRING RAM SALES 2002

Almondvale lives up to a high reputation

Almondvale Bond Stud held its 15th annual ram sale on Wednesday, September 11 from 1.30pm.

(Left - Peter and Paul Routley with some of the 2002 Almondvale Rams.)

This year’s draft of rams are again in excellent condition, showing great carcass qualities and heavy cutting fleeces that Almondvale rams are so well known for.

Bond sheep are invaluable as a self-replacing flock, and as the issue of introducing disease becomes a most important consideration for producers, the advantage of a self-replacing flock has never been more attractive.

Almondvale has had an extremely pleasing year with wether lambs returning $97.16 over the hook after two shearings, along with lambs wool at 551 cents/kg, fleece wool at 700 cents/kg (which topped the brokers catalogue in its section) and CFA ewes selling to $68.

Almondvale stud Principals Peter and Paul Routley said that people breeding from Almondvale Bonds have continued to achieve extremely pleasing results and maintain the benefits of a self-replacing flock.

The ‘top of the drop’ rams will be catalogued with all production figures of micron, wool cut and bodyweight.

Agents for Almondvale Bond annual ram sale are Elders VP Stud-stock and Harper Trevaskis, Lockhart.
